RACISM AGAINST MINORITY GROUPS

RACISM AGAINST MINORITY GROUPS

Minority literature can be considered as “Loneliness Perception”. Why I start like this sentence, because of this theme is important in minority society and “De-humanized” people who represents her or his minor group and people as same as them. When I say “de-humanized people it means who is assimilated and lost his or her own land his or her own identity also ancestors. Land and memory are important for those people who lost their hope. Hope is significant term, within books who associated and represents minorities, because writer always asks to readers to is there still hope end of the book and on characters? Hope is a light way for them. According to these terms, this Literature proves that it can be characterized and understood within advance level of the deterritorialization of language, land, behaviors, characteristic features, ideas, survive, adaptation process. For instance, we are able to truly control adaptation process on characters, how they survive the way experiencing the life harsh conditions in new land with new people as a newcomer. The way these stories, it is obvious that we observe the “Traumas” of those people. Because they carry and reflect those traumas. Moreover, characters teach us to live with those traumas as if they are normal things, but it is not, it is really creating the conflicts inside their heart and their mind after that they start to fight again so, it is the life bitter part.

All of sudden, I should say that being part of the minor group is really critical. Being a part of the minor literature is linking with the political issue for them. And it comes out as general and politic issue not individual issue, they speak for all of them not only one but also everyone so just this reason why they are stronger than you think. Minor groups always afraid of being under the pressure and afraid of losing their own culture facts. This pressure can be seen as “racism”. Racism bitter problem that they in. Because they are not same, they do not have same skin, color, eye and more thing, I can count for you. Even we are able to add inside it “black and white separation” because it is important to stress on this detail. In minor literature, writers always stress this racism problem. Toni Morison is momentous minor literature writer. She always peels back the layers of minor people and their feelings inside her works. Home is significant work to read of her. Concomitantly, I will explain and mention racism and dehumanized characters from her book in my essay.

Initially, I want to give some feedback of the writer. Toni Morison is an important minority literature writer because, she was always a stronger voice for them to show their rights. She was born 18th on February, she died 5th in August. She had a black women experience particularly in black community. She won the Nobel Prize in 1993 about the Minority Literature. Her family was loved and respectful family for the black culture. She lived within black culture. Storytelling and folktales were part of her. She joined to Howard University, and she was successful student in her past and childhood times. Her books were very important and had valuable marks about minority groups and their bitter times. Bluest Eye and Song of Solomon are significant books to read, and Song of Solomon told by narrator who is a male and who is searching for her identity. Toni looked through the life within a national way. For Toni Morison “mercy” is important key word to express and mention in her works, she always uses human relationship, human interactions, human consciousness, relations aspects of humanity, and how minority people who were being de-humanized can be re-humanized for their life to survive in her works. But we will look and explain important points her “Home” book, and it can be compared by bluest eye and song of Solomon.

To talk about “home”, we first think human severity, it is important because in this book in a racist way there a lot of problems on people as a severity. In addition, it can be psychological, emotional, and cultural severity. We can say that in this book and the character Frank, and her sister really were feeling alone and trying to figure out sense of redemption, they were also looking for their homeland their own culture. Where they moved, they were really in different situations because of they could not adapt that process and every land. Their big conflict is looking for home, and it was big trauma for them. In book for frank and Cee home must be safe and peacefully as a shelter. If we talk about the Home, Home is important for minority groups, they must feel original and calm inside home. Frank is sweet home that we can say for the Cee. She always sees him as a shelter in any situation. In that book, white people are in racist side because they are always like that, they never changed they are always in harmful side for black people. Racism has been always part of the Minority literature, even if 1950s, it doesn’t matter, so it is always the major topic in America. This violence bitter experience never ends for them. When Cee and Frank came across with this bitter part, they were damaged and hurt by these points. Thus, they were trying to live and adapt. It is important to mentioned that as a mentally and Physically Frank and Cee affected by these pressures by white people.

“The two oldest fought in the First World War, the rest battled in the Second. They knew about Korea but not understanding what it was about didn’t give it the respect—the seriousness—Frank thought it deserved. The veterans ranked battles and wars according to loss numbers: three thousand at this place, sixty thousand in the trenches, twelve thousand at another. The more killed, the braver the warriors, not the stupider the commanders.”

Toni morrison home)
War is important point because Frank never forgets war years because he was hurt by war, he never clears his mind because of war and blood death were traumas for him, during book we are able to observe these points. To make them right and adapt this survival life, they try to control themselves. On the other hand, they could not survive and hold this process.  There was an important memory of the Frank, during the Korean war, a Korean woman was shot by other man, so it was bitter and as a personal was harsh bitter memory for Frank because he did not forget for a long time. “Sitting on the train to Atlanta, Frank suddenly realized that those memories, powerful as they were, did not crush him anymore or throw him into paralyzing despair. He could recall every detail, every sorrow, without needing alcohol to steady him. Was this the fruit of sobriety?” (Toni Morrison, Home) He was always coped with up this problem. Frank never passes this problem because he had a stress disorder, he was always looking for the peacefully life. He was aggressive and creates problem for himself and for Cee. And one day he went to the hospital for healing way and controlling way, but he never quit on drinking.

But when he stopped, it means he met a girl who name is Lilly, Lilly changed him, Lilly made him restored and made him well than past. Then we can say that in the middle of the book he was different. As a thirdly, to talk about the Cee, she got married prince, but she never felt well as same as frank, so she broke up with prince because she was cheated on. So, she never found a way to live happily. To continue with book’s lines, “I stood there a long while, staring at that tree. It looked so strong So beautiful.  Hurt right down the middle But alive and well.  Cee touched my shoulder Lightly. Frank?  Yes?  Come on, brother. Let's go home.” (Morrison Toni, 2012) It means that they were still trying to find a new home to adapt and live. It isn’t same the prior living parts because they were still alone, they were still breaking up they were still living in some conflict. They always were creating new ways to follow and adapt in this process to survive.

“Nothing and nobody is obliged to save you but you. (Morrison Toni, home) we can understand from that lines if you are living in minority society, you should be able to with yourself you never lean on your feet for the white people. Because they are always around you even if you don’t want to fight with them.

“He would, as always, protect her from a bad situation.” (Morrison Toni home) For Cee, frank is always a shelter like ı have said before but, frank is lost man too. He always protects her but on the other way, he loses himself as well.  Something happens so bad on Cee when he sees these bad things, he helps her and protects and talks, also trying to heal her the way her life. Dr. Beauregard also helped her to heal and once more again she feels better. Subverter things were always around the Cee and Frank it is because of the society.

In minor society you are always face to face with this problem because of your color, living conditions, your land, your background information those keywords are important for you. White people always looking at you in different way they always hurt you as a psychically and mentally way it is the violence that books shows us.

“You couldn’t learn age, but adulthood was there for all.” (Toni Morrison, Home) from book for these lines, we understand that writer shows that living and age are nothing more than experiences, living but gain more experience are better than get older. So, for Cee and frank being mature also was important but cee is so sensitive and directly get hurt never get her mature way, but franks is trying to stay in mature side to behave for cee. You can learn living and gaining experience but not for age for Toni and on her characters.

“She was broken. Not broken up but broken down, down into her separate parts.”  She never controls her feelings during the problems Cee was so native but has delicate character features. So, she was learning the live with these features, but frank sees her always, broken up. While frank cares the Cee, he also thinks that turning back to homeland after a big Korean war. He always keeps inside his mind. He cannot adapt the real world he always wants to turn back and create his old life, on the other hand he cannot feels better so, he is ruined as mentally. the doctor was racist directly racist. So, he was so disaster for them. He was rough person to do something. He is leaning to create a violence on cee as psychically, and franks noticed that, but he was calm. Doctor was supremacist person. Like we have said before, racism is point of this novel that Morison explained. So, some characters were created for shows racism in this novel, we are able to directly understand.

Consequently, Racism de-humanized and hope terms are important for this novel we see the characters’ life, so I think that the writer asks us is there a still hope to find home or live in this society. In minor society being a black or from different country south, west, and east it doesn’t matter where did you come, it is important that if you are newcomer all of eyes on you and they can hurt you. Finally, I can tell you that, the important point is find the living hope in this society, writer Toni Morison makes the reader focus on that term. Minority literature is so important, because in local communities and regions, it provides an identity. It is significant to encourages tolerance and respect for the other communities. We can count many traditional things.  we have chance to look closer to ethnic groups in many ways. Following these ethnic groups, we also learn that how we can make connection kinds of terms as racism, sexual, minority, and oppression. I must say that under the Minority Identity, in this book, shows us Ethnic groups and hard times to live. Both characters are struggling with life inside new land with different cultures. When we observe, from these different cultures, different identities come out and get shape actual culture to live.  We can say that Minority Literature is against to social and cultural items. Minority literature shows that their voices against to inequality gender, sex and more on.
